Premiere of “Marriage” in the Theatre of Nations


At the Theatere of Nations with a great success are held the performances of domestic and foreign directors such as Robert Lepage (Canada), Thomas Ostermeier (Germany), Alvis Hermanis (Latvia), Constantine Bogomolov, Andrey Moguchiy, Kirill Serebryannikov, and many others.
The long-awaited premiere of «Marriage», directed by Philipp Grigoryan, was held on the Theatre of Nations stage on March 5th.
Philipp Grigiryan is being the winner of the Golden Mask (National Theatre Award) and well-known for his vivid ambitious projects.
This new performance by Philipp Grigoryan isn’t like any other version of Gogol’s iconic comedy about a wedding cancelled at the last minute. Staying true to the author, the director freely integrates modern rhythms and images, and different character types and social masks collide.
The main roles in the play were performed by Maxim Vitorgan, Vitaliy Khaev and Anna Ukolova, the star of the acclaimed film, «Leviathan». The theatrical debut of well-known journalist and TV anchor Ksenia Sobchak drew special attention to her role as the matchmaker, Fyokla Ivanovna.
During a lively discussion on the staging and nuances of the performance, guests enjoyed ARARAT moments, embodied in the refined cocktail «Marriage,» which was created by the partner of the event.
