“The Fruits of Enlightenment” with ARARAT

The first premiere of 2015 at the Mayakovsky Theatre was dedicated to the memory of Peter Naumovich Fomenko.
For many years «The Fruits of Enlightenment» which was directed by Peter Fomenko was a part of the regular repertoire at the Mayakovsky Theatre. The 2015 premiere wasn’t a reconstruction of the classic play: however the new production, directed by Fomenko’s student, Mindaugas Karbauskis, does pay tribute to the master.
The play was really crowded, since actors from all generations of the theatre company took part in it. Many of these actors had performed in previous versions under Fomenko’s direction. Many young actors participated in the play alongside the masters.
The stage design was just as interesting as the play itself. The first note by Tolstoy says, «a young and handsome lackey looks into the mirror and freshens up.» This phrase was taken by the stage designer, Sergey Barkhin, and the director, Mindaugas Karbauskis, as the main theme, so they literally embodied the idea of ‘mirror of the stage’ in the scenery.
The Legendary Armenian Brandy ARARAT partnered with the premiere. After the play guests enjoyed a special cocktail «Enlightenment.» The elegant tasting, the noble pomegranate note, and unforgettable ARARAT moments complemented the afterglow of the multi-faceted performance.
