Neumeier’s
“Tatianа” in Russia

The world-renowned choreographer, John Neumeier, whose work has always drawn interest, directed his ballet «Tatianа» in Moscow.
The plot of this ballet is the choreographer’s original interpretation of classic «Eugene Onegin» by Alexander Pushkin. Music for the ballet was written by Russian composer Lera Auerbach, and commissioned by the Hamburg Ballet and the Hamburg State Opera, in cooperation with the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. The Mariinsky Theatre’s Prima Ballerina, Diana Vishneva, and Dmitry Sobolevsky performed the main roles.
It is safe to say that the long-anticipated premiere was well worth the wait. The entire hall wildly applauded the maestro and ballet company, who poured all of their talent and skill into «Tatianа». The emotional dance movements, subtle psychological mise en scène, and re-imagining of this well-known classic captured the hearts of the sophisticated Moscow public. After the show, a reception was held that included the most prominent figures in culture and art, including Sergey Filin and Peter Stein, Irina Antonova and Tatianа Tarasova, Vadim Vernik, Vladimir Urin, Olga Sviblova, Maria Revyakina, Aleksey Bokov, and many others. They experienced unforgettable ARARAT moments, enjoying fine cocktails and sharing their impressions of the performance. The most traditional theatre spirit perfectly harmonized with «Tatianа»: its noble flavour matched the premiere’s festive atmosphere, yet its commitment to centuries of tradition, along with a readiness to receive and embrace the new echoed the spirit of John Neumeier’s modern masterpiece.
